LOCAL NEWS THIS WEEK 📰
Shrewsbury Sees Record Footfall as Christmas Approaches
Shrewsbury town centre experienced a major boost in footfall, with 56,670 visitors recorded across The High Street and Pride Hill last Saturday—the highest since 2019. The High Street alone saw 20,493 visitors, setting a record since monitoring began in 2015.
Business leaders credit the surge to several factors, including the opening of new shops, the buzz from national media recognition as the UK’s best high street, and festive events like the Made in Shropshire Fair.

SPORTS DIGEST 🏆
Shrewsbury Town Football Club
Shrewsbury Town Fight Back for Draw at Wigan
Shrewsbury Town displayed great resilience in their 2-2 draw at Wigan, fighting back from two goals down in the final stages.
Wigan's Thelo Aasgaard and Dale Taylor had given the home side a strong 2-0 lead, but the Shrews came alive in the last 20 minutes.
A Will Aimson own goal handed Shrewsbury a lifeline before George Lloyd equalized in the dying moments, benefiting from a rare mistake by Wigan keeper Sam Tickle.
Despite Wigan’s early dominance, Shrewsbury’s never-say-die attitude earned them a hard-fought point.
New Signing: Jamal Blackman Joins Shrewsbury Town
Shrewsbury Town have secured the signing of goalkeeper Jamal Blackman on a short-term deal.
The 31-year-old, who previously worked with manager Gareth Ainsworth at Wycombe Wanderers, joins after a stint with Burton Albion.
Blackman brings a wealth of experience, having played for clubs including Sheffield United, Middlesbrough and Leeds United. He has been added to the squad and made his debut in the recent League One match at Wigan.
Shrewsbury host Lincoln City, who are sixth in the league table, on boxing day.
Today’s game between Shrewsbury Town Women and Solihull Sporting FC was cancelled yesterday due to weather conditions.
