LOCAL BUSINESS SPOTLIGHT 🛍️

Studio One: Where Functional Fitness Meets Expert Coaching

Nestled in Coleham by the footbridge, Studio One is bringing functional fitness to the heart of town.

Here's why this local gym should be on your radar.

Meet James: Your Coach

Since 2013, James has been helping people transform the way they move and train. With a bachelor's degree in Strength and Conditioning and a Masters in Exercise Medicine, he brings great expertise to every session.

Currently serving as the Strength & Conditioning coach for the Shropshire Netball Pathway, James specialises in functional training – focusing on how we move and perform in our daily lives.

A Training Session at Studio One

I recently jumped into a session with James to experience his coaching firsthand. The hour-long workout focused on functional strength and mobility, and I quickly discovered why his approach is so effective.

We moved through a carefully structured sequence including squat holds, dead hangs, elephant walks, and squat jumps, before tackling more complex movements like split squats paired with pallof presses.

The session also featured eccentric hamstring slides, inverted rows, and kettlebell swings. What stood out was James's knack for clear demonstration and detailed instruction – he helped me nail the technique of each exercise while explaining exactly which muscles we were targeting and why.

What's On Offer

At Studio One, you'll find:

  • One-to-one personal training

  • Small group sessions

  • Youth strength and conditioning programs

  • Health checks

  • Specialised functional and mobility training

James has added youth S&C sessions slots on Tuesdays and Thursdays, perfect for different school finishing times. At £10 per athlete, these sessions offer focused coaching in a small group setting, helping young people build both athletic performance and a healthy relationship with exercise.

Whether you're looking to enhance your sports performance or simply move better in daily life, James's functional training approach provides the tools you need to reach your goals. You'll find Studio One in Coleham, conveniently located by the footbridge.

PHOTO OF THE WEEK 📸

This week’s Photo of the Week features two stunning images taken in The Quarry and The Square, using the "In the Round" technique.

Popularized by artist Pep Ventosa, this method involves capturing multiple photos of a subject from different angles while circling around it, then blending them together to create a layered, almost painterly effect.

The result is a unique, dreamlike perspective that gives a sense of movement and depth.

A big thank you to Ian who allowed me to share these photos.

SPORTS DIGEST 🏆

Shrewsbury Town Football Club

Ten-Man Shrewsbury Secure Crucial Victory

Shrewsbury Town showed remarkable resilience to come from behind and win 2-1 against Mansfield Town at the Croud Meadow, despite playing with ten men for nearly an hour.

The afternoon started poorly for Salop when Will Evans put the visitors ahead in the fifth minute. Things got worse when defender Toto Nsiala was shown a red card in the 34th minute for a foul on Lee Gregory.

However, Gareth Ainsworth's side mounted an impressive second-half comeback. John Marquis drew Shrewsbury level in the 54th minute, heading in Josh Feeney's cross. The turnaround was complete nine minutes later when George Lloyd found the bottom left corner after being played through by Alex Gilliead.

The victory lifts Shrewsbury off the bottom of League One, moving them above Cambridge United and within three points of safety. Meanwhile, Mansfield Town's struggles continue as they drop to 14th place after suffering their fourth consecutive league defeat.

Shrewsbury will look to build on this vital win when they travel to face Rotherham United, currently 15th in the table, on Saturday, February 8th.
