LOCAL NEWS THIS WEEK π°
Sabrina's Annual Lift: A Morning Spectacle on the Severn
An impressive feat of engineering took place in Frankwell on Thursday morning as Shrewsbury's beloved Sabrina boat was hoisted from the River Severn for its maintenance work.
Arriving at 8am, I watched as a carefully choreographed operation unfolded, with a crane team positioning two hoists over the river. The Sabrina was expertly maneuvered between them before being lifted gracefully into the air and swung onto supports in Frankwell car park.

A team of workers spent the day carrying out maintenance on the boat while it was out of the water. The whole operation ran so smoothly that the Sabrina was back in the water by about 4pm, ahead of schedule.
BBC Radio Shropshire was on hand to cover this annual tradition that offers a rare chance to see our river tour boat taking a brief 'flight' over Frankwell.
It was quite a sight to see such a familiar river presence suspended in mid-air, and the whole process showed impressive precision from everyone involved.
Easthope Studio Joins the Award-Winning Shrewsbury Market: A New Creative Hub for Jewellery, Workshops & Community
A delightful new addition has joined our historic indoor market β Easthope Studio, a creative jewellery shop founded by local maker Harriet Roberts-Marshall.
During a visit last week, the studio impressed with its wonderful selection of handcrafted pieces, including both Harriet's own collections and beautiful work from other local artists.
The studio isn't just a shop β it's set to become a creative hub in our market, working alongside The Swan Hill Studios Circle to showcase pieces from local, women-owned businesses.
If you've ever fancied trying your hand at jewellery making, Easthope Studio offers workshops right in the market during daytime hours, with additional sessions available at Snoop and Swan Hill Studios. They even accommodate private group bookings for special occasions.
You can find Easthope Studio in the indoor market Tuesday through Saturday, 10am-4pm. They're also taking part in the March 1st late-night event, staying open until 10pm β a perfect chance to pop in and explore what they have to offer.

You might recognize Tez from popular TV shows like Live at The Apollo, The Last Leg, and Mock the Week. He's also the author of the Sunday Times Bestseller "Secret Diary of a British Muslim Aged 13 3β4."
The gala show is one of the main highlights of the festival and will feature performances from various comedians across multiple venues throughout Shrewsbury.

PHOTO OF THE WEEK πΈ
Last Thursday evening, I visited St Mary's Church who hosted a mesmerizing display as "Splinters of Heaven" returned to transform the historic building. International light artist Andy McKeown turned the church's interior into a spectacular kaleidoscope of light, using imagery inspired by the church's famous 14th-century Jesse window.

Thousands of projected light shards danced across the Nave, reaching into every corner of the space.
The effect was truly magical, with the ancient architecture serving as a canvas for the moving lights. Combined with the accompanying audio, the installation created an otherworldly atmosphere within one of Shrewsbury's most historic buildings.

SPORTS DIGEST π
Shrewsbury Town Football Club β½
Match Report: Shrewsbury Town 0-1 Huddersfield Town
A resilient defensive display from Shrewsbury Town wasn't enough to prevent a heartbreaking late defeat at home to Huddersfield. The Salop had their chances, with striker John Marquis threatening in the first half and George Lloyd hitting the woodwork with 20 minutes remaining. However, Josh Koroma's 82nd-minute strike proved the difference, dealing another blow to Town's survival hopes.
Match Report: Shrewsbury Town 0-1 Stevenage
Misfortune struck early for Shrewsbury as an eighth-minute deflected effort from Harvey White went in off Aaron Pierre for an own goal. The Salop showed fighting spirit and were desperately unlucky not to equalise when George Lloyd struck the post, with John Marquis unable to convert the rebound. A late surge saw Harrison Biggins rattle the crossbar, but Town couldn't find the breakthrough they deserved.
Their next match is away against Peterborough on Saturday.
Shrewsbury Town Women
Shrewsbury Town Women fell to a 5-1 defeat against Lye Town this afternoon. The match kicked off at 2pm at Lye Town Football Club, with fans turning out to show their support.
