Colourful Mini Mural Trail Celebrates Shropshire Folklore
Shrewsbury has become even more vibrant with the appearance of colourful mini murals popping up on bollards and signal boxes around town. This exciting new art trail draws inspiration from Shropshire's rich repository of myths, legends, and folktales, bringing these stories to life in unexpected urban spaces.
Created by more than 20 talented artists with connections to the local area, the mini murals serve multiple purposes beyond their aesthetic appeal. The trail cleverly encourages visitors and locals to explore beyond the main shopping streets, spreading footfall to businesses in less frequented areas of town.
Each artwork tells a unique story from local folklore, from ghostly coaches to legendary warriors. For those keen to learn more about the historical and mythical inspiration behind these vibrant designs, a complete trail map with details about the folklore behind each piece will be available soon.
Next time you're wandering around town, keep your eyes peeled for these colourful additions brightening up our everyday streetscape.

New Management at the Helm as Appleton Takes Charge
It's been a week of significant changes at Croud Meadow, with Shrewsbury Town appointing Michael Appleton as their new head coach until the end of the season. The appointment follows the departure of Gareth Ainsworth, who left to take over at League Two side Gillingham after just five months in charge of Town.
Appleton, 49, brings considerable managerial experience to the role, having previously led Portsmouth, Blackpool, Blackburn Rovers, Leicester City, Lincoln City, Oxford United, and most recently Charlton Athletic. He'll be working alongside assistant head coach Richard O'Donnell, who was also with him at Lincoln, Blackpool, and Charlton.
Ainsworth's sudden departure came as a surprise to many fans, with the former Wycombe manager having won five and lost 12 of his 22 games in charge since November, when he took over with the team at the bottom of League One.
Defeat for Town in Appleton's First Match
Appleton's reign began with a challenging fixture against league leaders Birmingham City on Saturday, resulting in a 4-1 defeat. Despite the scoreline, it was an opportunity for Town supporters to see their new head coach in action as he begins to implement his approach.
Ben Davies opened the scoring for Birmingham in the 27th minute, with Laird doubling their advantage just after the hour mark. Alfie May added two more for the hosts before substitute Vadaine Oliver headed home what proved to be only a consolation for Town in the closing stages.
Shrewsbury's next fixture sees them travel to face third-placed Wycombe Wanderers on Tuesday 1st April with a 7:45pm kick-off, as they look to bounce back from Saturday's defeat.
Shrewsbury Town Women
The women's team will be in action this Sunday (30th March), facing Port Vale away in league competition. Kick-off is at 2pm at Community Drive, Stoke-on-Trent, with tickets available at the gate (Β£4 for adults, Β£2 concessions).
In transfer news, the women's squad has recently been strengthened with the signings of defender Mia Evans and versatile player Billie Kelly, who can operate in both defensive and midfield positions.
