LOCAL NEWS THIS WEEK πŸ“°

Paws CafΓ© to Close in June

After nearly a decade of cosy cuppas and cat cuddles, Shrewsbury’s beloved Paws CafΓ© will be closing on 1st June. Owners K&J shared that the decision was made to prioritise family life and wellbeing following the loss of their cat, Lady Grey.

The cafΓ© has been a gentle and joyful presence in town, offering a unique space to relax alongside its furry residents. Until closing day, they’ll remain open as usual, with a sale on their online shop for keepsakes. Voucher holders can still book via pawscafe.co.uk. The cats, they’ve confirmed, will stay with the family.

Loopfest: 300 Acts, 40 Venues, One Town

Loopfest returns to Shrewsbury from 2 - 4 May, featuring 300 acts across 40 venues in the UK’s largest inner-city music takeover of its kind. From local talent to national names like Goldie Lookin’ Chain and Miles Hunt, it’s a celebration of live music in all forms.

Last year’s event brought a 36% boost to town centre footfall, a sign of its growing impact. With support from Arts Council England, Loopfest is reinvesting in the music community and spotlighting grassroots talent. Many shows are free, with wristbands available for premium access at loopfest.co.uk.

Charity Concert to Shine in Harvey Owen’s Memory

A special Charity Concert will light up Shrewsbury Food Festival on 28th June, celebrating the life of Harvey Owen and supporting Shine On, a youth-focused charity founded by his mum, Crystal Owen.

The evening features local favourites Ego Friendly, SkaBurst, and HotRox, with live music continuing until 10 PM. Entry is included with a Saturday festival ticket or Β£10 from 4:30 PM. Crystal will say a few words to kick off the concert, which also raises awareness of road safety. It’s a meaningful addition to one of the town’s most popular weekends, more info at shrewsburyfoodfestival.co.uk.

DRAWN Live Returns to Flaxmill

DRAWN Live, Shrewsbury’s vibrant makers’ market, is back at the Flaxmill Maltings on 26–27 April. Set in the atmospheric Dye House, it brings together local artists, designers and creatives offering everything from original artwork to handmade gifts.

It’s a great way to meet the makers, shop small, and support Shropshire’s creative scene. The event is family-friendly, dog-welcoming, and full of inspiration. Whether you're after something for your wall or a special present, you’ll find it here. More info at drawn.live.

SPORTS DIGEST πŸ†

Shrewsbury Town Football Club ⚽

Narrow Home Defeat for the Shrews

It was a frustrating afternoon for Shrewsbury Town at the Croud Meadow on Saturday 5th April, as they suffered a 1-0 defeat to relegation rivals Cambridge United.

Despite a hard-fought performance, Shrewsbury couldn’t find a breakthrough, with substitute Luca Hoole coming closest midway through the second half. His effort was scrambled wide following a sharp save by Cambridge keeper Jack Stevens.

The visitors capitalised on a loose ball in the 75th minute, with Dom Ballard, on loan from Southampton, calmly slotting past Jamal Blackman to seal the win. Shrewsbury pushed for a late equaliser, and Hoole again found space in the box, but his header drifted over the bar.

It was a disappointing result for Michael Appleton's side, who remain at the bottom of the League One table.

Shrewsbury Town Women

The Shrewsbury Town Women’s team were in action today (6th April) as they made the trip to face Shifnal Town at the Acoustafoam Stadium.

Kicking off at 2pm, the fixture is part of their continued push in the league.
