LOCAL NEWS THIS WEEK 📰
Heart and Harmony Wellness Studio – Opening June 2025
After surviving a life-changing heart attack at 22, caused by two undiagnosed congenital conditions, founder Faith Harrison discovered the true meaning of health. Told she’d need a transplant and would never return to movement, her recovery through gentle, intentional practices like Pilates proved otherwise. Now, she’s opening Heart and Harmony Wellness in Harlescott, Shrewsbury (Cartmel Drive, SY1 3TB) to help others take charge of their health - physically, mentally, and emotionally.
The studio will offer Mat and Reformer Pilates, Barre, Yoga, private and online coaching, workshops, corporate wellness, hen-dos, group training, and even a content room for creatives. Whether you’re in recovery, building strength, or just looking to move with more intention, this space is for you.

With a strong focus on community, joy, and whole-body wellness, Heart and Harmony isn’t just a studio - it’s a movement.

Bake Off Star Coming to Shrewsbury Food Festival
Shrewsbury Food Festival just got sweeter: Great British Bake Off finalist Christiaan de Vries is joining the chef demo lineup this June. Known for his creative twists and elegant bakes, Christiaan will be at The Quarry on June 28–29, alongside local culinary talent like Tat Effby and Stuart Collins.
Expect a weekend of street food, kids’ activities, and live music, plus a special Saturday evening concert in memory of the North Wales teens, supporting Shine On with Harvey Owen. The concert is included with day tickets, or join from 4:30pm for a discounted entry.

Musician’s 40-Venue Challenge for Charity at Loopfest
Shropshire’s own Gemima Gallier is taking on a musical marathon at Loopfest this May and it’s all for a great cause. Over three days, she’ll perform at every single one of the festival’s 40 venues in Shrewsbury, raising funds and awareness for Arty Party, a local arts charity that supports learning disabled adults through creative expression.
From jazz and rock to riot grrrl punk, Gemima wears many musical hats. She’s been gigging since she was 16 and now balances her performing career with music outreach work through groups like The Hive and Arty Party itself.
Her epic Loopfest challenge will be livestreamed on social media by her support team, so even if you can’t catch her in person, you can still cheer her on from afar. As Gemima put it: “It’s going to be a fun addition to the magic of Loopfest and to raise money for Arty Party, a charity very close to heart.”
Loopfest runs May 2nd–4th and features nearly 300 acts. Expect music everywhere, in pubs, cafés, courtyards, and on corners, with plenty of free gigs and wristband-only extras.

Shrewsbury Flower Show 2025 Cancelled
The Shrewsbury Flower Show will not go ahead in 2025, marking a rare pause in its 150-year history. Organisers say rising costs and large losses from last year have made the event unsustainable.
The Shropshire Horticultural Society plans to take time to reassess the event’s future, while continuing to fund local horticultural and community projects.
Nerdy Shrewsbury to Close: Final Events Announced
Much-loved local games hub Nerdy is closing its doors on May 18th due to rising costs. Before then, they’re planning a final round of community events to say goodbye.
Final Events:
Apr 20: The Sketch Stage
Apr 21: Bank Holiday Wargaming Day
Apr 27: Magic: Chaos Draft
May 11: Pokémon May League Challenge

Meet Beryl and Bertie: Shropshire’s New Beavers
The Belle Vue Arts Festival is back with creative competitions that are open to all ages and abilities. Highlights include the scarecrow competition and a poetry contest, centred on this year’s festival theme: Movement.
Scarecrows will be popping up all over Belle Vue in June, and poets have until 23rd June to submit original work. More info and entry details: bellevueartsfestival.co.uk/competitions-25
SPORTS DIGEST 🏆
Shrewsbury Town Football Club ⚽
The Final Blow: Relegation Confirmed Before Kickoff
Shrewsbury Town’s fate was sealed even before a ball was kicked on Good Friday. As fans gathered at the Croud Meadow Stadium, hoping for a miracle against Wigan Athletic, news broke that Burton Albion’s draw with Exeter had made relegation to League Two mathematically certain. A decade-long stay in League One came to a quiet, yet painful, end.
Wigan Edge It as Town’s Winless Run Continues
The match itself felt almost secondary in the circumstances, but Shrewsbury were still determined to make a statement. Despite some encouraging moments—most notably George Nurse’s sharp free-kick and late efforts from Callum Stewart and Mal Benning—Town fell 1-0 to a resurgent Wigan. Dale Taylor’s 71st-minute strike proved decisive, delivering a seventh consecutive game without victory for Shrewsbury.
It was also a bittersweet return for Wigan boss Ryan Lowe, a former fan-favourite at Shrewsbury, who celebrated his first win in charge after a string of draws.
A Season of Instability and Missed Opportunities
This campaign has been marked by turbulence both on and off the pitch. After a rocky start under returning manager Paul Hurst, Shrewsbury sought inspiration by appointing Gareth Ainsworth. His charismatic style brought brief highs, including memorable wins over Birmingham City and Wrexham. But inconsistency, a mid-season talent exodus—including the sale of standout player Tom Bloxham—and defensive frailties proved too much to overcome.
The stats tell their own story: just 37 goals scored in 42 matches, and 71 conceded—only two clubs fared worse defensively.
Ownership Uncertainty and the Search for Stability
Chairman Roland Wycherley had planned to oversee a smooth transition of ownership after three decades of stewardship. However, a failed takeover bid added further uncertainty. Now, with Director of Football Micky Moore steering the ship and Michael Appleton tipped to remain at the helm, supporters are hopeful the rebuild can begin in earnest.
Next season promises new challenges in League Two, including a reunion with former manager Ainsworth, now at Gillingham. Town fans will be hoping that lessons learned from this difficult season will lay the foundation for a stronger future.
